Tattoo Aftercare

Thank you for choosing Mr Ink Tattoo Lounge! We’re excited to see your new tattoo heal beautifully. Follow our aftercare instructions closely to help your tattoo stay vibrant and avoid complications. If you have any questions, please reach out to your artist.

Step 1: Immediate Care

  1. Tattoo Film Application: Your artist will apply a protective tattoo film over the area. This breathable film keeps out bacteria and moisture while allowing your skin to heal.
  2. Leave It On: Keep the film on for 2-5 days, as directed by your artist. The film may fill with a light fluid; this is normal and part of the healing process. There's no need to drain it unless the dressing becomes uncomfortable or causes itching, in which case remove it gently.
  3. Cleaning and Removal: When it’s time to remove the film, peel it off slowly under warm running water. Wash the tattoo gently with warm water and fragrance-free soap, and pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 2: Daily Routine

  1. Clean and Moisturise: Wash the tattoo once daily using mild soap and warm water. After cleaning, pat dry and apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, gentle moisturiser, like those with ingredients such as vitamin E, shea butter, or cocoa butter. Avoid scented or heavy creams, as these can clog pores or irritate the skin.
  2. Avoid Picking and Scratching: Let your tattoo heal naturally. Avoid scratching, picking at scabs, or any action that might disrupt the healing skin. Resist the urge to pick even if it itches.

Step 3: Protect and Maintain

  1. Avoid Excess Moisture: Stay out of pools, hot tubs, and saunas while your tattoo is healing. Avoid activities that cause heavy sweating or exposure to dirt and pet fur.
  2. Sun Exposure: Avoid direct sunlight during the healing phase, as UV rays can fade the ink. Once healed, apply sunscreen regularly to protect your tattoo.
  3. Moisturising Tips: If the skin feels dry, apply a small amount of moisturiser as needed. Be careful not to over-moisturise, as excess moisture can prolong the healing process.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid Certain Products: Do not use nappy rash creams, petroleum jelly, or any products that are heavily scented or oily, as these can interfere with the tattoo’s healing.
  • Long-Term Care: Once fully healed, keep your tattoo moisturised and protect it from the sun to maintain its appearance.
